The rear is out and we started prepping the bottom of the car for undercoating.

Image

The springs are the only thing we will be reusing.

We should have the bottom finished this weekend!
Thanks!

The bottom is done! We used Dupli Color bed Armor and put 4 coats from the trans cross member aft.

We test fitted one of the new wheels on the front to check clearance and the 16” wheel fit great and still have a vintage.

We also started installing the Dynamat on the fire wall.

Image

We used Acetone to remove the Dynamat name as my A.T.D.D. (attention to details disorder) didn’t like the look of the logo.

We will mount the new AC air box next.
Thanks!

The new air box is in and it installed with little modification to the fire wall.

Image

All the coolant and Freon line go through the firewall where the original fan motor came through. The only hole we added was for the condensate drain.

Image

The new AC system calls to block off both cowl hole under the dash but we plan on installing the original drivers side cowl vent so we took it apart and detailed it.
Thanks!

After hand polishing the quarter vents we installed the drivers side.

I think the grill that mounts just inside the quarter vent may have been painted the same color as the car but we went with black because we like the contrast.
Thanks!

We installed the tail lights and quarter extensions

Image

The new repro tail light gasket did not work/fit well so we cleaned the originals and sprayed them with Plastic dip to build up the face that seals the water out.

It cool to see the tail lights in and looking forward to seeing the sequential lights work.
Thanks!

Man, it's a real bite when something that simple/cheap as a gasket is a piece of crap..... WTH...

This weekend we installed the rear, fuel line, and started mounting the rear valance.

Image

Image

We had to put the wheels on to check the fit, and to see how cool they look! We still need to repaint the grey center to a darker charcoal.

Image

Image

With a hole drilled through the new frame rail the new s/s fuel line fit in the original location

Image

With the rear valance install we started fitting the bumper guards which need a lot of adjustment as they affect the fit of the bumper & valance.

Thanks!

Was away on a vacation last week, so not much work on Kurt’s car but today we did a few things. We put some Dynamat on the roof and fit a fuel tank & cover.

Image

Image

Image

As soon as the Dynaliner comes in we will glue it over the Dynamat and install the headliner.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Had a friend make an aluminum fuel tank cover that we fit to the trunk. We will add sound insulation to the bottom but not install the tank for a few weeks as to leave room to work on other things.
Thanks!

We have been working on a lot of things and most are not photogenic, like installing a new wiring harness. But we did install the headliner and have a few pictures.

Image

Image

We used some of our niece craft paints to color the ends of the headliner bows.

Image

Image

With the 3 bows in we installed the two aft rod retainers and note the overhead console mount with the light and some speaker wires stored inside.

With some glue, spring clamps, and using the old windlace to hold the headline tight. We started gluing the front then the back and then the sides with the corners last.
Thanks!

With the headliner installed the last thing to do before we can install the windshield is mount the new dash pad.

Image
The new AC system requires a little large hole for the center vent so we cut that before mounting the dash pad.

Image
Image
We also installed the original defogger vents and a new center speaker

Image
Image
Image
With the dash Vin-tag cleaned, detailed and reinstalled we used the old pad to locate the mounting hole. After a few test fits and massaging the metal frame w added 2 strips of 3/16 foam to the top edge to help firm up the fit.

Image
Image
Image
We also test fit the new dash panels but left them off as we finish the work under the dash.
Thanks
Pat

We bled the brakes and put the car back on all 4 for the 1st time in over 1 ½ years.

All good restorations use a milk crate for a drives seat at some point in the build ; )

We hope to put the motor in next week???

Hi Pat,

I've been following this thread since it began and its been a truly inspirational process. Your son has learnd a lot of new skills and an appreciation for all of the hard work it takes to completely restore a classic car. :btu:

Your photo coverage of the build has been very well done too and has been a big help in showing just how much work is necessary to complete this project.

I do have a technical question about how you post your pictures onto this forum. As the club's Historian and event photographer I have always been limited to posting just 3 pictures at a time. How do you manage to post a large series of pictures on each posting?

Perhaps there is a simple way to do this but so far I have not been able to figure it out! :yikes:
