We port matched the intake to the heads which were off by about an 1/8” along the bottom and a 1/16” on one side.

Next we will make the fuel line from the pump to the carburetor. We also had a few Bullitt sticker made for the oil pan.

Using a few pictures from some original movie poster we found online, I had a friend who does a lot of work for me in my daytime job copy the original font. He is also engraving the same font on the polished valve covers that we should have soon.
Thanks!

We are still sanding on the body but this evening we bent our own fuel line from the pump to the carb filter.

Image

Starting with some .375”od x .035 aw S/S tubing and a mandrel bender, we use a clothes hanger to make a template then bent the new fuel line.

The line fits great and works well with the Edelbrock inline filter, we need to make a mount to hold the filter to help support the line.
Thanks!

Today we test fit the front and back window trim to check the corner gaps. With new quarter I was thinking the back would need some fine tuning but it was the front window that needed work.

Image

Image

Image

The left front was close and needs just a little more work in the corner

Image

Image
The top right front was off the most and needed about an 1/8 to fill the gap.

Image

Both back lower corners fit great with little work.

Image

Image

Image

The new quarters were not as sharp as the original. We spent a lot of time getting the body line from the trunk up the roof sharp and true.
Thanks!
Pat

It was over 70 today so I took the day off and primed the car with Dupont Self etching primer. We have a 24 hr window to go over it with hi-build primer without sanding so I think I’ll take another day off ;-)

It took over 3 to just tape the car and we will need to re-tape it to do the inside.

Tomorrow it will be gray
Thanks!

She is all gray again!

Now back to the block sanding, but I think I’m seeing highland green at the end of the tunnel. Thanks!

Sweet! Yeah, a 70 degree day is enough excuse for a "sanity day", LOL!

Sand, sand, sand, and more sanding!

Image

We are long blocking with 220 grit paper to find the low spots, and stopping before we sand through the yellow primer, may need another coat of hi-build here and there.
Thanks!

Still sanding and we found that the hood needed more work then the high-build primer could fix.

Tomorrow more sanding!
Thanks!

Most of the sanding is finished and only the trunk lid & hood need more hi-build primer.

Image

We use a airbrush to spot spray the bare steel with more self etching primer before we sprayed more hi-build primer.

More sanding tomorrow, yippee!
Thanks!

I must reiterate that this may be the single greatest mustang thread that I have ever read. An awesome experience for you all and for those of us following the progress.

What a wonderful project for you and your son! I can only imagine how proud you and he will be of the finished product.
Great TEAM BUILDING. Beautiful documentation of the project too, for you and the club.
I am jealous of such a family thing.
Can't wait to see the finihed product. Any projected date for completion?
Jim

Almost forgot to fit the stone deflector and it’s a good thing we did as the Dynacorn one we bought a few months ago fit poorly. So we ordered the original Ford tooling stone deflector and the fit was better but it still needed a little work.

Image

This is the Dynacorn deflector which is thicker but is off at the corners.

Image

This is the Ford tooling deflector closer to the right shape but we needed to add about 1/8” on each side.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now we will need to see if we can send the Dynacorn deflector back, too bad as it was about 1/3 the price of the original Ford tooling stone deflector.
Thanks!

Pat

We sprayed the LAST coat of high-build primer today! Now one last block sanding and we are ready for paint!

Once again we used a air brush to spray the break through metal with self etching primer

Sealer and highland green next!

We have just about finished our homemade paint booth and we should be painting in it soon!

Image

Image

We built it in the corner of the shop using white plastic that is used to shrink rap boats. It is easy to work as you can shrink it to fit and the white reflects the light. Two of the walls are setup to roll up to get the car in and out.

Image

Image

Image

We installed a cheap storm door in one corner with a rack of four 20x24x4 filter, and on the other end of the booth we built a box to house two fan out the window. Just a few more lights to mount and it will be ready to use.
Thanks!
Pat

Remove the front valance and fender this morning, the next time there on the car they will be highland green! The door come off next and we are planning on marking the hinge location by drilling a 1/8” hole to help align on re-assembly, unless someone has a better way to mark the hinges???
Thanks!

Pat
