Hi:

I just received my 66 hardtop all the way from Oregon. The owner said it needed some paint work...and they were not kidding. I was hoping someone had some good suggestions for reputable paint shops in the Montgomery County area so I can get some estimates. Thanks!

Hello Terpstang and welcome to the club.

I'm not that familiar with paint shops in the Montgomery County area but I can offer a suggestion. I have a 2002 V-6 Mustang which I purchased in 2008. It needed a lot of work!

I've been restoring the car since I bought it and in 2010 I had some bodywork issues repaired and the car repainted at MAACO in Catonsville, MD. Not only were they the most reasonable in pricing and returning the car back to me in a week, but I gained a new respect for their work.

My car is a daily driver with almost 120,000 miles. It is not garaged so I have a lot of dust, pollen, etc. to contend with every day. It may be worth your while to check them out.

I had a factory OEM clearcoat paint job done on my car for a fraction of what several body shops wanted and most of them wanted the car for several weeks!

Here are a few pics of my car at last weekends St. Patrick's Day Parade. I've had numerous people comment on my paint work and I gladly refer them to the MAACO in Catonsville, MD.

Thanks, the pics look great. I have read/heard some horror stories about Maaco so I was initially going to stay away from them but I think I will check the Catonsville location out and see what they say. Did you have the body work done before or did Maaco handle that as well?

I can tell you from being in the auto body/paint business for over 20 years that you get what you pay for. But beware of over priced estimates.

I manage a body shop in Resiterstown, Maryland and we offer a lifetime warranty on our paint and craftsmanship.
As an example, a 2004 Mustang all over would start at $3500.00 and go up from there. Now that doesn't include any body repairs/peeling paint that may be needed. Not saying we wouldn't take care of some minor door dings and scratches for our customers. Now thats for complete disasemble of bumpers, lights, all door trim, mouldings, ect. If you don't remove these items a paint line is created and this is where paint may start to peel from. If the price is below what I have stated they are cutting corners somewhere, cheaper clear coats with less UV protection that will cause your color to fade over time more rapidly for example. Not preparing the car correct ( sanding/masking/cleaning )
I'd be more than happy to look at your car sometime, either at a meeting or just come by the shop sometime, my shop website is in my profile. Even if i can't help you or you feel we would be over priced, I can give you some advice on the items that may need to be addressed on your car and possibly get you going in another direction for your repairs.
