Did the quarter panel / rocker panel flare fit better on the 2nd side? How did you finish that flare?

Installed new hood hinges and power antenna today

After watching the Bullitt chase seen about 10 times to locate where the antenna was mounted on the rear right quarter I think we are close enough. The power antenna kit we bought did not have a chrome base so we will make one to replace the black plastic base.
Nice thing about a power antenna over the fixed is that it is easier put a car cover on!

The Dynacord hood hinges are a lot thicker then the hinges that came with the car as you can see in the pictures. Nice to see a reproduction part made better than the original and only 33.50 each with CJ Pony’s end of the year sale. They fit and work great!
Thanks!
Pat

Nice! I've always hated the antenna on the fender.... Like you said makes for a pain to cover. i used to keep a small adjustable wrench in my old 92 for when i covered it up... Best thing Ford did was to move it on the new Mustang. Whenever I get around to redoing my SVO I'm going to get rid of mine and do a hidden amplified antenna.

More body work and fine tuning panel fit today

Kurt added to metal the bottom of the doors so we could have a consistent gap along the rocker.

Image

Image

I worked on the hood as the left front corner didn’t line up with the head light bucket so we added a metal to make up the gap.

Image

Image

With the new hinges installed we could now match the crown of the hood with the fender. The new hood is welded to the under structure in the front and back, and only folded over along the sides allowing the hood to be shaped, so with one or two strategic spot welds on the bottom of the hood wile pushing the hood into shape it matches the fenders.
Thanks!
Pat

Test mounted the new AC, power steering pump, and one wire alternator. All 3 need a lot of adjusting to align and clear the belts.

Image

The old air compressor mount needed 3 of the 5 mounting holes modified to fit.

Image

Then the Randalls Rack and pinion supplied pump pulley need to be machined flat about 3/16” to clear the AC belt.

Image

Image

As the one wire alternator is a GM unit we need to make a mount, so starting with cardboard we made a template for a plywood test mount, and then cut out a ¼” aluminum plate.

Image

Image

Image

Just need a few belts and a little fine tuning.
Thanks!

We restored the windshield washer foot pump & switch today.

The foot pump is cool and for the most part in good working order.

With all the parts repainted and the switch cleaned, we replace the rubber boot and o-ring. Just need a new pedal pad and hoses.
Thanks!

More body work today!

The new hood was about 80% out of the box, but getting it close to 100% took a lot of work. Now that all of the big body work is done we will start priming and block sanding.
Thanks!

Just received some more great picture from 1970 of Kurt’s Mustang from the cars 2nd owner. Earlier in this thread I post some pictures that he sent from his 2nd trip west to the 4 corners. These picture our from a friend of the owner that went on the 1st trip west to Alaska.

Image

This is the 2nd owner at 22 years old the spring of 1970 just after buying the car from Commonwealth Ford in Richmond Virginia. We have the original hubcaps in the picture.

Image

In this picture you can see the 1970 Virginia tag and Commonwealth Ford dealer frame

Image

Image

Here they are packing for there 1st road trip west to Alaska summer of 1970

Image

This is some where in Canada on the road to Alaska, he thought just north of Vancouver.
How about the spare tires on the roof!
Thanks!
Pat

Today we received the Comp Cam pushrod set which needed to be about .500 shorter then the original pushrods as the roller lifters are taller.

Image

We used an adjustable pushrod to find the right length and get the best geometries.

The top end is just about finished, back to the body work this weekend.
Thanks!

Another body work Sunday but I think we will be ready for priming next weekend???

Image

Image

After seeing the pictures from 1970 when the 2nd owner strapped a luggage rack on the roof for his Alaska trip we now know what caused the small dents in the roof. Funny how you see a dent in an old car and you wonder how it happen.

Image

Image

Image

Sand the roof, trunk and a lot of little details and she will be ready for priming, and then more sanding. FUN!
Thanks!
