I have once again registered the club for the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade.

Please let me know if you would be interested in participating.

Date: Saturday November 19th
Parade starts at 10:00 am
MCOM should arrive by 8:30 am.
Parade is 1 mile
We are section C and Line up # 40.

Going to use the same routine as the last two years.
Meet at the Carney Park and Ride to leave there at exactly 7 AM for anyone up North that was going. This is located on Harford Road right passed the Joppa Road intersection. Take 695 toward Carney and it will be about a mile off the beltway on the left.

From there, head to the Laurel Park and Ride and leave there at 7:45 AM. The Laurel Park and Ride lot is located on the northbound side of Rte. 197 (Laurel-Bowie Rd.) - approximately 1/8 mile north of the intersection of Rte. 197 and Contee Road.

The best way to get to the Laurel PnR from Carney is to take 95 S to 295 S, catch 197 N and the PnR will be on the right just after you cross Contee Road.

From there, head to Silver Spring where the Parade is being held.

The directions provided by the Parade Committe are as follows:
From 495: Take 495 to Colesville Road South (Exit 30B). After Approximately 1.5 miles, turn left onto Cedar Ave. Then the Town Center garage can be accessed by turning right onto Roeder Rd or Ellsworth Drive. Section E Line Up is on the 5th floor of the garage.

Is anyone meeting at Carney before heading to Silver Spring? Unfortunately, I have to work Saturday so I need to give someone the vehicle passes so there is no problem getting in.

Hey All

I would love to see us have some coordinated maneuver where we all stop and rev our engines a few times and then keep going. A few people did this individually during the July 4th parade and it really got the crowd going so imagine if we all did it at once.

Perhaps the lead car can stop when appropriate, do a hand/arm gesture (suggest a outstretched arm with a closed fist), we all pass the gesture down so the last car knows whats happening while we all put our cars in park or neutral, rev a few times, and then start moving again.

Lets face it, we are driving Mustangs and that means we are supposed to make some NOISE in addition to looking good! We're not floats.

Jamie, can you clear up something for me

At the top of your post you said we are Section C and Line up # 40

Then at the bottom you said Section E line up

I assume this year we are Section C/40 and the Section E thing is a cut and paste from last year

Also who is picking up the passes?--I'm going straight to the Laurel Park and Ride

Well, it was a perfect day for a parade--Ronbo, my daughter and I tried to do the club proud--Temperture wasn't too bad, lots of sun and a good crowd

My car wasn't running the best and I had forgotten that it had no heat but I said I'd be there and represent so I did--My daughter and Grand daughter would go to a parade in the vert if it was snowing(and they have!)--Ronbo put the top down on his vert also

I guess the only minuses were the size of our participation and that we got stuck behind a politician that had to be interviewed on TV and then shake the hand on EVERY person at the parade--We waited a good ten minutes after we left the garage while the parade went on without us while he was interviewed--Left a big gap in the parade

But, the cars looked good, we looked good and we received lots of cheers and compliments

Sorry I couldn't get to anyone to hand off the passes but my work schedule prevented me from getting there at the time someone would have been there. I hope that you all didn't have a problem getting in and I hope that most of all, you all had fun!!!!

I think Don's point was that only 3 cars showed up which was pretty embarrassing. We may want to reconsider doing certain parades if we can't get a decent number to show up. I do agree with Don's pluses and I did enjoy watching the 3 of us go by on TV later (I taped it).

We may pull this parade in the future since the turnout is so low.

Thanks to those who did make it!

Sorry I missed the parade. But I ran into personal problems. I even had friends in the crowd waiting to watch us go by. She's been in Africa for 2 years with the state department and this was the first one in awhile. :banghead:
