I know this is an old thread but i figure i'd throw in my 2 cents for any future searches on the topic.
I have had 1995 Cobra R wheels in 17x9 with 255width tires on my 93GT for the past two years. I was running 94/95 spindles on the front and fox length rear axles from north cobra racecars.
At full turn the 17x9 wheels would come into contact with my stock fox control arms. Steering rack limiters fixed the problem. Im sure if i went with the 96+ spindles the rubbing wouldnt have been a problem but i didnt want the increased track width...
