Dave,

Nice runs and congrats on getting in to the 13's with your car! It may not seem like much to you with the things you did to help but I'm sure both Ryan & the MCOM member who needed the tow greatly appreciated those deeds!

That is exactly why I love the mustang community, is people like Dave helping others in a time of need. I'm glad neither were of a serious nature, but to the owner it was a time of desperation.

Wish I could have made it there, but I was lucky enough to have someone cover my standby for my trip to Summit point. We lost 2 people do to injury's so it shortened our rotation. Could have been a race filled weekend for me. Maybe next time.

This looks like it could be a permanent event shared by both Mustang clubs. I'm betting as more people know about this more people will want to participate.

Many years ago I had the opportunity to help out with a crew that worked on a 55' Chevy called the Hanky Panky. It was a D Gasser and only driven on the drag strip. I would spend every weekend with my friend John Bucheimer who lived in Frederick, MD and was one of the mechanics who worked on this car which was raced at 75/80 Drag Strip.

While my car is not a racer I would still enjoy going to take photos so maybe next year.

Steve,

You are more then welcome to join us in the fall for our 2nd track rental. There would be no cost for you to come and take pictures for the club (MCOM) and would hope you'd share them with us (NVMC). Marc Marriott (NVMC vice president) and I are working closely with Bob to build the relationship between the 2 clubs. Trying to get more involved in events and cruises, car shows.

If I 'm available Jim I'll be there! I wouldn't mind sharing the pictures for both clubs. We should be doing things together as much as possible. I think it's great that we're doing cruises together and other activities together. The more the merrier! :btu:

We went just to watch other members run and to learn about drag racing. After watching, Rich decided he is going to run our car the next time the club does this event. Thank you Dave and Susan for talking to us about your runs, now Rich can't wait to take our GT down the track!!

There is no discount for two drivers and one car. But you should try it anyway. It is nice to know how your car handles at high speeds (<-- just an excuse) and it about the only legal way to go that fast.
You should at least try it. :banana2: You might like it.
If not, Rich will get a lot more runs in.

If you have any questions, just ask. I can tell about running my car and Susan can tell you about runnng a fast car.

Dave - that is a great video even if you smoked me and I never saw my car :clinkmugs: I actually remember that run, you quickly got ahead of me and then the distance stayed fairly constant with both cars doing about the same.

Actually my best time this year was 0.02 seconds slower than last year but I did manage to crack the 100 mph barrier this year with a 100.93. Good times!

Ron, if you have a tune you should run the 93 octane race tune, and also lower your rear tire pressure between 18-20 psi that will give better traction (even if you weren't spinning) the track has air to refill afterwards. Your car being a convertible is heavier then the coupe but still can pull the numbers! Your car should be mid 14's with a bit more seat time, as it sits.

Hey James

I actually did use 93 octane and loaded my custom 'Bama tune but I also did that last year. I also lowered the tire pressure but only down to 27 - I feel uncomfortable going much below that. My best time this year was 14.386 but most of my times where in the 14.4's. My guess is that is in the ballpark of what the V6 convertible can do. Now if I could just drop a few pounds that might help as well :-)

As somewhat reference, Motor Trend did a quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at 100.1 mph using the lighter coupe and the Performance Package with Summer tires (in a 2013 which probably is similar to my 2012).

Dave,
I just learned how to drive a clutch in November. I am no where near ready to take that car on the track so that means Rich gets to have all the fun. To be honest I think once he goes down the track it would be very hard to get him to share. After watching on Saturday he has a major need for speed!! lol :3gears:

The times you guys are putting down at the tract with basically everyday drivers is amazing! :banana2:

Used to be a time back in the day when you either had a car tuned for performance and it couldn't be driven very reliably on the road or had a car that could be driven on the road but could never deliver the promised performance the owner was expecting.

With todays cars you can actually do both. And the times that Ron was able to run with a V6 convertible, reaching 100 mph in the quarter mile is outstanding! :btu:

James - woo hoo - the 100 mph club! I agree with you totally - probably could do a hair better if I practiced more but I am more glad just to drive away with the top down knowing I didn't break anything.

Steve - Again - I agree. Today's engines are great. Think about it - my V6 lost to an older Cobra by only around 0.8 seconds. Not great but not too bad either. Won't that be something in a few years if a V6 or V4 with a turbo can beat it.

Ron,

To give you some perspective on how far engine development has come over the years, I just finished reading an article in the June 2013 edition of Hemmings Muscle Machines about a 1967 Ford Fairlane XL500 427. This is a rare car and considered one of the top performance cars available from Ford during the Muscle Car era.

This car featured an R-Code 425 hp and 480 lbs. ft. of torque 427 cid V8 with a four speed manual transmission and two four barrel carbs in a car that weighed 3,640 pounds.

The 1/4 mile acceleration ET for this car was 14.5 seconds @ 100 MPH, very similar to the performance of your V6 convertible.

Now we all know that the manufacturers reported SAE horsepower back in the day which is a lot higher than the methods used today to measure horsepower. So in essence your V6 which is rated at 305 hp and 280 lbs. ft. of torque offers the same performance. I'm pretty sure that your convertible is also around the same weight as the Fairlane too.

Even the early Shelby Mustangs with the high performance K-Code 289 cid engines were only putting out 306 hp. Your V6 nearly matched the horsepower of the 2005-2010 Mustang GT's although their torque range was much higher.

With the new V6 Mustangs owners can now enjoy GT performance without the steep price increase. Good news all around.
