 Post subject: Emissions

So I have to take my car in for emissions. Every two years I have to remove my X-pipe and put the stock mid-pipe back on. I know I can try to "too low to go over the rollers game" but Im not comfortable with that. I was wondering if I can pass on my tune. As far as i know, the tune is bypassing the O2 sensors. I don't know if the Emissions site will pick up on this. Hell, i don't even know if they will want to look under the car as soon as they hear how loud it is. Anyway, If I was too program the car back to stock mode (remove the tune) then the check engine light immediately comes on and the ODB says its the O2. Of course, this does not occur with the factory pipe is on. Any insite will help.

I just ran mine through emmissions recently with no problem. I have the SCT tuner to cancel the O2 sensor code. And they did not do any visual inspection or even question me about my exhaust. Don't know if it was just luck or whether they just never catch it.

So, I SHOULD be ok with my SCT eliminating the O2s? Guess its worth a shot, right? If I fail im only down another 15 or 16 bucks right? I don't have to have a mechanic sign off on work performed on the first fail, right?

if I fail, will I have the $200+ work order or do you think they will visually inspect? if they do visually inspect what is the consequence of them seeing the X pipe?

None of my late model Mustangs has ever been visually inspected and I've only had OBDII scans performed.

I failed the OBDII once. The guy asked me if I'd had the battery disconnected, I said yes, and he said come back in a few days of driving around. Took it back a few days later and it failed again. Puzzled, I took it back to Woodbine Motorsports, who did the custom tune on my '05. Turns out the Emission Monitors were TURNED OFF. So he created a new tune with the monitors ON, drove around 50 miles, went back and passed.

My '05 and '97 haven't had cats for a long long time and I've had no problem other than that one time.
