Hey folks, my name is Justin. I've been a huge mustang fan all my life, and now I will finally get to own one. Tomorrow morning I'll be going with a tow truck to pick up my new(to me) 1968 Mustang Coupe... she has some rust and things that need to be worked out, and she needs a tune up bad, but it's nothing that I can't slowly start to rebuild and restore. I'm far from a mechanic but I can hold my own as long as I do enough research ahead of time.

I plan on joining MCOM at the first meet I can make it out to. I look forward to meeting you folks and picking your brains for info as I work my way through bringing my pony back to life.

1968 Coupe
original 289(rebuilt) with Auto C4

I'll post up pics as soon as I get her home!

I love your Georgia State Patrol foxbody! I'm originally from Georgia, born in Columbus... and I'm dying to move back!

Here's some pics... I'm a little upset, what looked like minor frame rust became a major issue after a few smacks with a wrench..

The Good:

The Bad:
Front bumper is crooked and loose, cut and weld on some new box tubing and its all good.

However this is NOT easy...

That huge hole opened up when I smacked what looked like a little rust with a wrench... and the flood gates opened. Kinda pissed... I don't have the know-how or welding equipment that would be needed to fix this which means I have to pay someone to fix it which puts me way behind on my project budget...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...

If anyone has a recommendation of a good shop that won't kill me in price to have the frame fixed on my mustang I'd appreciate it... its killing me that I have to hold off all the plans I had to save up the money to fix the front frame.

Welcome to the website! The torque boxes are usually the first to go. But never fear you can totally rebuild that car from a catalog. They sell just about everything for our Mustangs. Check out this link. You can find everything you'll need here including the torque boxes.

What is the paint code on that car? It sure looks like it is the same color as mine, Seafoam Green.

Thanks GTVert01! I've found quite a few websites that sell the torque boxes... my problem is finding someone around here who can actually do the work. I don't have a welder or welding skills. I'll buy the parts... I'll do the leg work to get the front end tore down and pull the motor and tranny and interior out of the car... I just can't actually put it all together again.

The original color is Seafoam Green, car was made in Metuchen, NJ and still has the original 289 in her, just rebuilt...

Wish I could help in that dept but I can't weld either. Gonna have to learn someday. I may have some interior parts if you are interested.

SWEET about it being Seafoam Green. Are you going to keep it that color? Mine is a "J" code so it came with the 302 4bbl. Mine still has the original drivetrain as well and I found the buildsheet behind the dashboard.

LOL! I doubt mine will stay seafoam green... the paint color is the farthest thing from my mind... Right now I want to get the frame un-F'd and the body panels solid and straight and the whole car sanded and in primer. Once I'm there I'll worry about picking a color hehehe

Still looking for a shop, but might have a few friends who can help me out...

Its been a good bit since I posted on the forums because of the brick wall I hit with my torque boxes and frame rails on my mustang... I found a new rolling chassis with ZERO rust to swap my motor and interior into. I found it in Georgia and had some friends check it out for me and they confirmed that the car is perfect as far as the metal goes except for the hood. It should be up here in the end of Sept so I'm working on tearing down the old mustang to make room for the new one!

I'll post updates and pics when the real work starts!

Justin,

Thanks for the update. It's a bummer to hit the road blocks of restoring an old classic. Glad you haven't given up. Let us know how things are going and good luck.

Mark

I hate to resurrect old posts... but my whole project went on hold for a VERY long time, between the condition of my first mustang and buying a house and keeping my now fiance happy I haven't had much time to do anything mustang related!

I'm finally settled in the house(In Severn now, not Pasadena) and to the point where I can start work on my mustang, I picked up a parts car in the form of a 1967 coupe with almost ZERO rust so I have a new frame to drop all the good parts from the original 1968 coupe into! Should hopefully have some progress pictures in the next few weeks!

Funny how life happens sometimes, huh? I'm not far from you. LMK if you'd like some help. I can't do alot of heavy lifting/bending due to a back injury but I still manage to get some wrenchin' done...
