Post subject:  Sit on it

A friend of mine is a State Farm agent and he told me that after a claim sits on a rep's desk for 30 days the bosses start to make noise so if you get that far they will get more reasonable. I told the agent handling my accident case that I had already bought a replacement truck and I would sit on it for whatever. He came around with my settlement money fast. Listen to Jim, it is good advise.

Thanks for the advice Jim. I’m doing just that. I should have mentioned that Geico is my insurance company. The other driver is insured by USAA. I have a rental policy good for $1500 that I think will last me 30 days. If it comes to it I’ll press them for more time. We are all ready looking for a replacement vehicle so I can wait as long as necessary to get reimbursed. I filled through Geico because it is supposed to be fast. I was told that the car would be repaired but when I went to inspect it I found out that Geico had told the shop it is going to be totaled and not to put it on the rack to check the body alignment. The repair shop inspected it after I asked them to. I’m thinking I should have filled through USAA. Can you guys tell me how to find a fair settlement price? KBB has it listed for 9K if I bought it used from a dealer. I’m fine with that even though I know I can’t find another Mustang is the same shape for that price. I was planning to get my wife a new car anyhow but now it will be a little sooner. And of course keep the Stang for me! Thanks again for all of your help.
Dave

One thing I did while negotiating compensation is find sale advertisements for Mustangs similar to mine, mileage close to mine & in the mid-atlantic region. I had about 20-some ads that really helped during negotiations w/ the insurance company. Go on cars.com, autobytel.com, carmax.com, etc. Good luck.
