So Jeff's little blue monster (who we are calling Christine's sister at this time). Keeps having electrical issues, we take her to the mechanic and they can't find anything wrong, they drive her all over the place and she is fine.
Jeff picks her up and she dies.

Anyone an expert in wiring/electrical issues?

He is so frustrated right now he wants to sell her.

1985 LX 5.0 Convertible, 138 K Miles, rare triblue, new starter, new relay, new AC, new water pump, new throttle position sensor, AOD, CFI.

How does it die?

From the list of parts you listed, it sounds like it will not start \ turnover. But I am guessing.

It starts, runs for the mechanic, Jeff was driving it home and it just died while waiting at a light, now will not even turn over and the battery was so dead that even the blinkers would not work.

I did not see a new alternator or battery in the list of relacement parts.
Can you jump start the car?
Do you have volt/amp meter? If so, what voltage does the alternator put out?
It sounds like the car runs till the battery is dead, so I would focus on the charging system.


After you go through the basics, and since this problem is sporadic, I’d consider looking at the chassis and motor grounds. This could also cause a drained battery. Make sure the grounds are tight, the connections are not corroded and the wires are not broken. I have seen battery cables with broken insallation corrode though in the middle on the wire run.

As you probably know, I am busy though this weekend. Next weekend is my first free weekend in two months. Maybe I can lend you a hand with the little blue monster. If you are at the this weekend, stop by and say hi to Vicki and me.

i had some issues(starter related) and it turned out to be a toasty battery ground cable and bad battery. good luck

Many a Ford has burned to the ground literally speaking due to ground issues.
