Seafoam?

So my car, a stock 1993 5.0 LX, is a bit reluctant during acceleration around 2500-3000 RPM's and also pings on lower octane gas. It has a rough idle as well, sort of a "rolling" sound but the actual revs dont pulse more than maybe 50 revs, if that. I'm going to check the codes as well as the timing since there could be other problems - the brake booster is also shot and hisses loudly during braking so that vacuum leak could be affecting the acceleration as well. I'm wondering if anyones think I'd get any benefit/help some of these problems by using Sea Foam? I'm a little worried that it will do more harm than good since the engine has 167k on it. The engine has been fairly well-maintained but I dont want to have to tear into the engine because I created more problems by freeing the carbon buildup; there were also a few times that I forgot to change the oil for awhile. I would be putting it in the through the PCV line or brake booster line as well as some in the tank, per the directions on the can. I'm not comfortable adding it to the oil since there could be sludge in there due to my sometimes-spotty maintenance. I'll add that I'm going to replace the injectors/plugs soon as well.

Should I bother with this or would pulling the codes and replacing those parts first be best? Also I live in Olney in Montgomery County and am not that crazy about having a huge white plume following my car, especially with the overzealous MoCo police.

As in any case start with maintainance(sp?)/troublehsooting first before throwing things at it that'll just leave you chasing your tail...

Thats what I was thinking. I'll run the codes and replace the broken stuff and see where that gets me. Just figured I'd ask since its super cheap.

Simple fix. Replace the brake booster. You have a unmetered air leak.

Seafoam will defiantly give you the "Bond, James Bond" smoke screen option in your car.

You might want to electrically disconnect the IAC and see if the RPM hunting goes away. Usually a dirty IAC will cause a bigger swing in RPMs (like 1000 RPM), but it’s a free and simple test. Bob, sound right to you?
