I was fooling around with the stang the other day doing little things like checking the PCV system and tighting header bolts, dumb stuff like that. Anyway, I took the car out to cruise it and it was missing and had a loss of power. So I came home and retraced my steps trying to find the reason for the miss. I thought maybe a vacuum hose came loose, but I couldn't find anything. The next evening I went out to work on it somemore and it was almost staling while idleing, it never does this. Also when you turn the key to ACC the fuel pump seems to be getting louder since about a year ago. I ran this info by a friend of mine who owns a shop and he said it might be the fuel filter or the fuel pump is going up. The fuel pump was replaced with a 190 unit back in 1999, and the fuel filter about 2 years ago but the car has only been driven about 5000 miles in those two years. Just wanted to see if anyone has had this problem before or maybe has some insight, any help is appreciated! |

Fuel filters are cheap start small rule out the expensive stuff |

The fuel filter should be changed regardless. Since this started after you were tweaking things, I'd give it a look over again. The rough idle really sounds like a vacuum leak. |

Hello again everyone! I got a free gas tank from a guy from another local racers forum site. My tank had multiple holes and had orange stuff in it. Installed tank along with another new fuel filter and new fuel pump screen. Car seemed great for first 2 minutes but the slight jerking is still there. Also loss of power is there too, feels a little stronger but only about 10% more. I tried Rick's trick about spraying carb cleaner around area where vacuum might be and nothing. So I'm stumped! I really don't have the money to leave it with a shop but I might let my friends at RPM fabrications in Hanover take a look at it. Some guys say the timing might be out or the injectors are clogged. Over the past two years when I drive it sometimes it feels like with only half throttle the cars wants to take off into outer space and other times the gas pedal is stiff and it runs like crap. It like comes and goes until now. Trying to get to the track this year but now this. Its always something stupid. I hope not expensive. |
