I agree with "Defyant". Young people pay the highest rates because they have the most accidents and a general lack of driving experience. I'm 44 years old and just bought my first "sports car" a year ago--my 2006 Ford Mustang GT. I've been with Allstate insurance since I started driving at 17, and I've never had an accident and only one speeding ticket (which has since been expunged from my driving record) and I pay $1,057 a year in car insurance. Before my Mustang, I drove a 1997 Ford Ranger pick-up truck with a 3.0L V6 in it and only paid $546 a year. If you're driving a fast car with a big V8, you're going to pay a high premium. (But Oh Boy!!! isn't it worth it to drive a Mustang GT!!!). |

As you can see some younger drivers drive faster and more careless. I drove a 1986 Ford LTD for about a year while I was senior in high school in 95-96. Then in July 96 the LTD broke and my folks helped me get my first and only stang. I was paying $190 a month for everything except collision (my fault). It really drops when you turn 21 and drops more when 25 and married. Now I pay $45 a month through State Farm. My wifes cousin said for his 06 VW GTI its $400 a month. WOW hes only 19. |

I had a 94 probe when I was 18 -19, was on my parents insurance and lived in the city... I paid $998 every six months. Im now 22, under my own insurance and in the county with a 02 GT and I pay $950 every six. Go figure! |
