New Forever Stamp for Mustang

Coming soon to a Post Office near you a new Forever Stamp featuring a 1967 Shelby GT500! :btu:

As a tribute to Carroll Shelby and the 1967 Shelby GT500 the USPS will issue a Forever Stamp as part of it's Muscle Cars issuance of stamps. Past recipients of these special stamps include the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1970 Chevelle SS and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda.

Check out the article I have written about this in the next issue of the Stampede for more in depth information. Right now each Post Office will be receiving 500 sheets of these special stamps so they won't last long!

The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR with the 360 hp 428 Cobra Jet Police Interceptor engine is the car that enthusiasts classify as the baddest Shelby built in the 1960's. Thats why the stamp is made for that model.

The 1967 Shelby GT500 was no slouch as it had a 355 hp 428 Cobra Jet engine as well but the 68' gets the nod as the car that everyone wanted but few could own.

BTW, those horse power figures were wildly underated primarily for insurance reasons as the insurance companies were penalizing muscle car buyers to try to quell the horse power war going on between Ford, GM and Chrysler.

Most people believe that the true horse power ratings for the 428 Cobra Jet engines were well over 400 hp! :banana2:

Those big 428's were torque monsters and better suited for straight line performance but the Shelby's did have better suspension than standard Mustangs.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see a 68' Shelby GT500 KR with todays suspension parts installed. Talk about a sleeper! :banana2:

I know this older man who has a 71 galaxy 500 bone stripped and had a built 428 CJ. He was a rum runner of sorts and that car flat out flew and he'd hang it out on those side roads like nothing. Yes his car was a straight line junky but it was pretty impressive in curves too. I recently called him and he still has that car in his barn and in many ways I'd like to have it and in some I'd rather not because it might be more work that I'd want to take on. :yikes:
