Post subject: | Fixing paint chips |
Last night I gently rearended my son's Mustang with my own, and the plastic front bumper sustained scuffing and paint chips. I got some NuFinish scratch remover, which cleaned up all the scuffing fine but now I'm addressing the paint chips. I've applied two thin layers of touch up paint, and am letting them dry overnight. After cruising the web, I've come across several methods of smoothing out the touch up paint so it is nearly indistinguishable from the factory paint, but I'm wondering if some of you have actually achieved success doing this with specific products. I went to Advance Auto and they really didn't have any products suited to fixing up paint chips, at least using the products I see posted on web "hot-to's". Any ideas on where to buy auto refinishing supplies? This might make a good clinic for our club, and if I can make this work well I'd be happy to demonstrate at a meeting some time. I've got enough chips in the paint to last me a while, last night's incident not withstanding... Having these forums is freaking dynamite, by the way. Such a nice job, IT committee!! John |

Good idea for a meeting! I can nominate my car as a doner if you need more?! Personally I have just used a few layers of the touchup paint that matches the color I've got, then when I get it reasonably level, one last layer of clear touchup. It works for my car in its current condition, but if a higer quality job is needed then I'm all ears. |
