Does anyone in the club have a '68 with a 289 2-barrel? There is a girl I work with that is currently restoring one. I know...I told her about the club and she is interested. She has questions about wiring and hoses for a 289. Mine has a 302 so I don't think that will help much. She is looking for detailed pictures or someone that she could go over and look at their car and take some. |

Evelyn is a '66 with a '68 302 ... here is what I have found out. Just to be overly careful, if I am asking for parts that attach directly to the motor I specifically ask for '68 parts anything else I go with '66. Engine bay wiring harness: '66 Thermostat housing: '68 When I go to NAPA for my parts I sometimes ask if they would lookup the part numbers for the other year and see if there is in fact a difference ... (Thermostat housing for a 68 302 vs a 66 289 and so far everything has been the same) If she is looking for a definitive answer, then hopefully someone can give it, otherwise I would suggest spending a few minutes on NAPA's website comparing part numbers between the 289 vs the 302. My experiences so far is that its all the same ... but that only encompasses the fuel pump, thermostat & thermostat housing to be precise. I also have a Chilton/Motor Age manual from 1974 that covers emissions/engine performance back through 1966. It includes vacuum schematics, part #s for emissions related components, and a multitude of specs and adjustments for distributors, carbs, etc. If she (or anyone else here) needs something, let me know! |
