How To Paint Brake Calipers What's Needed? **Paints** (AutoZone) (Advanced Auto) A brush on type caliper paint kit is available. -Dupli Color High Heat Engine Paint (Color of your Choice) -Dupli Color High Heat Clear Coat -Dupli Color Primer -Gunk Pro Series Brake Cleaner (any brake cleaner should do the job) Other Stuff** - Wire Brushes (different sizes to reach all areas) - Masking Tape - News Paper -Towel/rag - Time and Patience Step 1 Tape off everything that you aren't painting. (use newspaper if it's windy out) Step 2 Wire brush to remove all foreign material. Make sure because if you don’t your paint wont stick well. Step 3 Remove all grease and dirt by liberally spraying brake cleaner to all areas. Perhaps do this twice to make sure there is nothing on the calipers. Step 4 Once calipers are clean it's time to prime the surface. Spray/brush this on evenly and let it dry. 2-3 coats is recommended. When it has dried the surface should look slightly glossy all around. Step 5 When the primer is dry, spray/brush evenly making sure to get all surfaces and edges painted. Let it dry for about 5-7 minutes and then give it another coat. 2-3 coats is recommended. Spray from different angles to make sure to get everything. If you want to speed up the drying process use a blow dryer. Step 6 Let it dry completely before applying the clear coat using the same technique as the paint. Give it 2-3 coats (or more if your desire) makes it a lot easier to clean. Let dry for a few hours. |
