The new donor longblock was delivered this afternoon. Its a 302 longblock from a 77 Ranchero. It was pulled when it started to experience a rod knock. Since I am pulling everything and only using the block I shouldn't have to worry too much about that. Casting #'s I may not get to tearing it down till Monday night ... Mothers day tomorrow and all, it sounds like we will be spending most of it away from the house. Anyone want some spare pistons?! I am going to have 2 complete sets now ... *sigh* At least I was able to get rid of the block at the Howard Co dump last week. |

Here we go again... So this is what I found when I removed the oil pan! I found the stud and nut all the way up near the oil pump and there is a LOT of metal bits inside the oil sitting in the oil pan. I am not too sure if this is good enough to rebuild. Any thoughts? |

yes, I have a thought, no, wait, it was just gas.... NO, uh.... wait.... wait.... OH YEAH! You're boned. That block is trash. The seller had to have known what was up, and just ditched it. Lesson learned? Don't buy anything without pulling the pan and heads first.... |

call Western Auto in Edgewood (410-676-2332 I think) and ask for Mike McNew (sp?). He will most likely have a decent block he'd be willing to let go... |

The guy I bought it from was gracious enough to offer to remove the block for me and give me back the money for it.. and look for another one! Really nice guy, I would have tried to invite him to look at our club, but he's not really a Ford guy... more of a Chevy/Pontiac Nova/Firebird kinda guy. Had this block laying around for his brother who's a Mustang lover. Anyways, I'll let this play out and see where it goes. I got a good feeling from him when he was over here at my house ... we stood around and talked shop for at least two hours. Really nice guy and it doesn't surprise me that he offered to take back the block and give me back my money, that matches the perception I got when he was around. I will say that I am getting good at disassembling blocks! This one only took me ~3 hours until I was finished. I had a little problem with the harmonic balancer not coming off, so I had to cut the timing chain and pull the crank, balancer, and timing cover all in one piece! |
