At our last meeting in December, Heather Thompson brought up a proposal for the club to participate in a tangible way to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey who lost virtually everything during this massive storm. Heather is in contact with a person in the affected area who is organizing an effort to provide coats, gloves and scarves to the victims of the storm. As the weather gets colder these people who have lost their homes and all of their posessions are in despearate need of warm coats, gloves and scarves. This proposal was heartily approved by the members at the meeting as it will be a wonderful and meaningful project for the club to once again give back to the community. Bob and Heather Thompson will be collecting donated coats, gloves and scarves for the victims of the storm and Heather will ship these donations to her contact in New York to be given directly to the needy. I'm sure that most of us have a closet that contains coats, gloves and scarves that we no longer use and this would be the perfect time to put those clothing items to good use. I have already found several coats and pairs of gloves to donate myself and my daughter Sarah brought over two coats. gloves and scarves that are virtually brand new but that she no longer wears to help get this campaign off to a good running start! Those coming to the next MCOM Meeting can simply bring your donations to the meeting or contact Bob or Heather to arrange for your donations to be collected. This is another opportunity for the club to help the needy in a tangible way and for us to gain some positive publicity for the club. During this holiday season we especially need to help out the victims of this monster storm that has destroyed so many lives. Heather reported that she has three large boxes full of coats, gloves, hats and scarves to send to her contact person in NY. She has taken photos of the donations as this is an important community project for the club. Midnight Blue MCOM Treasurer- Historian |
