NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Jack Beckman, Larry Dixon, Vincent Nobile and (RFC) Hector Arana Jr. were the pro class winners in Sunday's Arizona Nationals, the first national event on Firebird International Raceway's repaved track. In Funny Car, Beckman won for the third time in four years at Firebird and took the class lead for the first time in his career. He qualified fourth in the Valvoline/Aaron's Dodge Charger, and ran 4.354 seconds, 278.29 mph vs. Johnny Gray's 5.870, 120.67 mph. Beckman tops Matt Hagan by five points. In Top Fuel, Dixon had a 3.955, 307.37 mph run vs. (RFC) Antron Brown's 3.967, 302.08 mph. Top Fuel leader Spencer Massey and Funny Car veteran Ron Capps were among the non-qualifiers on a high-track temperature surface. Brown leads Dixon by 20 points. In Pro Stock, rookie Nobile won for the third time this year, on a holeshot, going 6.678, 208.30 mph in a Dodge Avenger to (RFC) Allen Johnson's quicker 6.655, 209.49 mph. (RFC) Jason Line is 168 points up on Greg Anderson. (RFC) Ron Krisher qualified eighth in the Valvoline GXP and lost in the first round. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, rookie (RFC) Arana Jr. had a perfect .000 reaction time on his Buell and clocked 6.884, 194.30 mph to Eddie Krawiec's 6.944, 194.27 mph on a Harley-Davidson. Krawiec leads Arana Jr. by 87 points. |
