Worlds Fastest Half Mile Speed Trials Mustang
Following today's Nascar Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway the track gave drivers a unique chance to set the closed course half mile speed record in various vehicles. The event, which was dubbed the "World's Fastest Half-Mile Speed Trials", featured vehicles ranging from a Tony Stewart owned sprint car, to a Yamaha superbike, and most interestingly a street legal 2011 Ford Mustang GT. The Mustang, driven by Nascar driver David Ragan, may not have been the fastest car to show up but it did set the record for fastest passenger car with a lap of 98.497 mph at 19.481 seconds. As we reported late last week the Mustang was powered by a supercharged 624 horsepower 5.0L and featured an FR3 handling package and Brembo brakes. Full press release is available below.
Mike Lichty set a new half-mile Supermodified world record with a lap of 144.634 mph in 13.267 seconds. Scott Russell and his Yamaha superbike took on the World’s Fastest Half-Mile and set a half-mile closed course record for a Superbike with a run of 97.990 mph, which he covered in 19.582 seconds.
