I must have missed this topic before, so I will update everyone on my story. I am the youngest of eight, and I got to watch as most of my siblings went through cars... oldest brother started with a '72 Pinto which he modified to handle like a slot car, then after wrecking it racing a 924 Porsche, he got a '78 Pinto, which was also modified in time. Other siblings had stuff like '67 Malibu, a Mazda B2000, another Pinto, Pontiac 2000 (Chevette) Dodge Omni, and some other stuff not worth mentioning. A good friend of a couple of my brothers had a '79 Mustang Pace car... that's when I first fell in love with them. It may have been sooner than that for our neighbors had a hot daughter who was about 18 who had a '68 Mustang coupe. I was just a kid, and did not know that I should have volunteered to wash her car for her... oh well. Anyway, back to my story. I was influential in a purchase decision my Dad had to make when one of my sisters needed a car to drive. It was an easy sell as in 1985 the Mustang stiil had the 2.3L engine that my Dad was so happy with in the pinto. So that was our first Mustang. When I was 13 in 1986 my brother was trying to decide between a Monkey Carlo SS or a Mustang GT. After a couple of test drives and many grins, he bought an Oxford White 1986 GT from Preston Ford in Preston, MD... the biggest little dealer on the shore. We lived in Howard County, and to this day I recall the sights and smells of the trip home. To not bore you guys too much, I will skip past my other brothers '87 LX 5.0, and get to my times in a Mustang. I joined the Marines right out of high school, and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. The brother who had bought the '86 had started a landscaping business and had bought a '92 F150 while keeping the '86 Mustang. One weekend while on Liberty he told me to take the car with me back to base, so no one would have to give me a ride, or come pick me up. I rejected the idea a little... and then took him up on the offer. So I was borrowing his car for a little while. On a later trip home he handed me the title, and told me to go get it in my name. Brother of the century! I offered to pay him for it, but he said no, he had his fun with it, I loved the car and took good care of it, he said I should have it. I kept the car with intentions of never parting with it. Until I rolled it! It was over seven thousand dollars worth of damage. I pulled every part off the car (steering wheel is now in Bob Thompsons car) and sold most of them. Adam Brown bought a lot of the parts. He now has a shop that modifies Mustangs. I bought another Mustang from my other brother... the '87 LX 5.0. Many of the wrecked eighty six parts went into the '87. After selling the '87 to Bob, I went without a Mustang for a while. Then I purchased a 1993 LX 5.0 used, drove it for a while, then sold it as well. I went without for a period of time until the '05 Mustang hit the streets. Had to have one. I ordered the white '06 GT I have now from Plaza Ford and took delivery in May of 2006. My heart is still with the four eyed foxes though. I purchased another well used original owner 1986 GT last year. My original intentions were to attempt to own a Mustang from every 10 years... '66, '76, '86, '96, '06... and so on and so forth. I realized the thought was noble, funds are short. I would rather have a really nice '86, rather than a bunch of okay Mustangs. Plus my garage is too small. I also have two Crown Vics ('02 and '05), a Jeep Grand Cherokee which my wife drives, and an '02 F350. Too many! I will always own a Mustang from now on, as I have a true appreciation for the basis of it's existence... an affordable four seat pony car that can be practical and wild all at the same time. Now that you have suffered through my story, let's hear from everyone else!
