NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series
Larry Dixon, Ron Capps, (RFC) Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Michael Phillips were the pro class winners in Sunday's Fram-Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, Calif.
In Top Fuel, Dixon ran 3.879, 317.12 mph to top Tony Schumacher's 4.006, 300.73 mph. Dixon, with eight wins this year and 56 in 100 final round appearances, is 211 points clear of Schumacher.
In Funny Car, Capps clocked 4.169, 296.44 mph to No. 1 qualifier Jack Beckman's 4.210, 298.93 mph in the Valvoline Dodge Charger in an all-Don Schumacher Racing final. It was Capps' first win of the season and first with new crew chief (RFC) John Medlen. (RFC) John Force is 43 points ahead of (RFC) Robert Hight.
In Pro Stock, (RFC) Coughlin's Chevrolet Cobalt had a 6.590, 209.52 mph pass to beat (RFC) Jason Line's 6.602, 209.39 mph in a Pontiac GXP. (RFC) Mike Edwards leads (RFC) Allen Johnson by 413 points. (RFC) Ron Krisher qualified No. 4 in the Valvoline Cobalt and lost in the first round.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Phillips' Suzuki powered to a 6.886, 196.76 mph win over Andrew Hines' 6.909, 194.16 mph on a Harley. Phillips' set a national speed record of 197.65 mph in the semifinals. (RFC) Hector Arana leads Matt Smith by 141 points.
