NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series
J.R. Todd, (RFC) Tim Wilkerson, Greg Stanfield and Chris Rivas made it to the winner's circle in Sunday's O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Nationals in Ennis, Texas.
In Top Fuel, Todd ended Tony Schumacher's streak of 31 consecutive round wins and seven straight national wins. On a holeshot, Todd went 3.912 seconds, 309.84 mph vs. Schumacher's 3.910, 310.63 mph after 1,000 feet. After two Countdown races, Schumacher is 97 points ahead of (RFC) Antron Brown.
In Funny Car, (RFC) Wilkerson's Chevrolet Impala blasted to a 4.172, 297.55 mph triumph over Tony Pedregon's 4.206, 295.98 mph in an Impala. Jack Beckman qualified fifth in the Valvoline Dodge Charger but lost in the semifinals. Wilkerson is 10 points ahead of Pedregon. (RFC) John Force won two rounds and jumped 3 positions in the chase.
In Pro Stock, (RFC) Stanfield's Pontiac GXP clocked a 6.678, 206.35 mph quarter-mile win over Jeg Coughlin's 6.686, 205.51 mph after both had identical reaction times. It was Stanfield's first PS win and he's now got wins in five different classes. (RFC) Ron Krisher qualified 16th in the Valvoline Chevrolet Cobalt but lost in the first round. (RFC) Coughlin is 14 points clear of Kurt Johnson.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Rivas' Buell powered to a 7.024, 183.97 mph win over Matt Smith's 7.098, 187.00 mph on a Buell. Smith is 59 points ahead of Eddie Krawiec. Del Worsham will drive the Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing Funny Car next season, with Aaron Brooks as crew chief. Gary Scelzi said he won't race next season, so he can focus on his family business, but left open the possibility of driving again in the future.
