NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series
Sunday's rain-delayed Torco Route 66 Nationals at Chicagoland ended with Tony Schumacher, Tony Pedregon, Kurt Johnson and Chris Rivas in the winner's circle.
In Top Fuel, Schumacher's Army car went 4.499 seconds, 329.83 mph to best Rod Fuller's 5.259, 223.14 mph. Schumacher, from the pole, has a massive 190-point advantage over Antron Brown.
In Funny Car, Pedregon recovered from a Saturday fire to go 4.818, 319.75 mph in his Chevrolet Impala. That beat Scott Kalitta's 4.957, 308.92 mph in a Toyota Solara. Melanie Troxel (RFC) became the first woman to win a Funny Car pole but lost in round one. Jack Beckman qualified 15th in the Valvoline Dodge Charger but lost in the first round. Tim Wilkerson's (RFC) gap over Ashley Force is 57 points.
In Pro Stock, Johnson's Chevy Cobalt powered to a 6.733, 205.22 mph win over Jeg Coughlin's 19.755, 72.78 mph in another Cobalt. Jeg Coughlin (RFC) broke right at the start. Ron Krisher (RFC) qualified fourth in the Valvoline Cobalt and lost in round two. Johnson leads Coughlin by 36 points.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Rivas' Buell had a 7.051, 185.43 mph lap to best Craig Treble's 7.134, 185.38 mph on a Suzuki. Andrew Hines tops Matt Smith by 99 points.
