My friends, Im getting married again. Call me nuts, but here I go. Here is the story on how my girlfriend Tina will become my wife....

July 23, 2008 @ 8pm I drove Tina through one of the nastiest thunder and lightning storms ever from Maryland to NYC. In the pooring rain I drove to Times Square, parked Defyant Marauder smack dab in the middle of the place on the center median and told her to get out.

I got out and met her at the front of the car. We kissed for about 5 minutes in the pooring rain, ending with me dropping to one knee, producing the engagement ring and asking her to marry me!

Without hesitation, she said yes!

I got up and we made a spectical of ourselves !

After...I dunno, awhile.. we got back in the Marauder -soaked, laughing our asses off, I didnt bring a towel... dripping wet... ah, napkins from Dunkin Donuts will suffice.. We attempt to dry off.

As I attempt to leave, I am obstructed by what appears to be a very unhappy and very wet NYPD officer. I'm thinking: "Hmmm, I think this guy is pissed. He doesnt even have a rain coat - and I thought I was wet!" All I could muster in that moment to Tina was "ut-oh".

He walks over to my side, I buz the window down. He askes for my Licence and registration, asking what the hell is happening and why am I parked here! As I am telling him what had just happen a couple more boys in wet blue stroll up, he said "Buddy, if my boss see this.... here (hands me my papers), get outta here."

And that is exactly what I did. The last thing they saw of us was a soaked happily engaged couple zoom off the center median in a car nicknamed "Defyant Marauder"!

Charlie and Tina, Deb and I wish you very must Congrads on your news. we wish you both the very best. now i have to buy you too another beer LOL. maybe a case hehe.

Mine was summer after graduation. I was headed off to graduate school and Linda was heading to Balt. to teach. I saved my summer job money and bought a ring. I rode a bus from my parent's place in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to Pittsburgh to see her and we ended up in a "Drive In" movie that night. The tension and suspense was killing me so I just couldn't wait for that special place and time to give it to her. If she said NO, I needed to be on the bus in the morning-"Out-da-Here". I had a string tied from a Monster fake diamond ring to the real deal in the bottom of the ring case. I put a "I've got the world on a string" note inside. She was so clueless I had to point out the note so she would pull the string and see the real one. It went well, but we had to lie to her folks about when I actually gave it to her. We went out to diner on a fancy floating restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh the next night and pretended that I gave it to her there. Our first argument was over who was going to tell her father. "He's your dad - Yeah, well you asked me" kind of thing. I did mention it to him the following morning and then we rushed off to church. He just looked at me and without saying a word. My one regret is that I did not ask her father before I asked her. I did ask him years later, once I matured, with a heartfelt apology. Aug. 10 is our 40th anniversary. I would offer this, life goes up and down and that 50%-50% stuff will not get you through, but a "No matter what-til death" will keep you on track when it gets slippery. It's the second best thing I ever did. Thank you Charlie for sharing your joy with us.
