NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series
Sunday's O'Reilly Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway, near St. Louis, saw Hot Rod Fuller, Tim Wilkerson, Kurt Johnson and Andrew Hines in the winner's circle.
In Top Fuel, Fuller's Caterpillar car ran 4.525 seconds, 328.70 mph to best Tony Schumacher's 4.583, 325.45 mph. Schumacher is 68 points ahead of Antron Brown.
In Funny Car, Wilkerson took the points lead with his second victory of the season. His Chevrolet Impala went 4.874, 317.27 mph vs. Mike Neff's ( a former crew chief and the fourth driver for Team Force) 4.886, 321.58 mph in a Ford Mustang. Mike got his first round victory along with his second and actually had a shot at wining the finals, all in one day. Wilkerson is 24 points up on Ashley Force, who lost in the first round. Jack Beckman didn't qualify in the Valvoline Dodge Charger.
In Pro Stock, Johnson's Chevy Cobalt powered to a 6.631, 209.30 mph triumph over Dave Connolly's 6.651, 208.78 mph in a Cobalt. Jason Line has a seven-point edge over Jeg Coughlin Jr. Ron Krisher qualified 14th in the Valvoline Cobalt but lost in the first round. Warren Johnson didn't qualify.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Hines' Harley cruised to a 6.882, 194.13 mph triumph over Matt Smith's 8.098, 114.02 mph on a Buell. Hines leads Smith by 56 points.
