Ok so here is the story. I had a heavy duty spec stage 2 clutch installed in my ranger and 4 months later I wrecked. I sold a lot of stuff off the ranger on craigs list and a couple ranger forum websites. Some guy bought the clutch from me. I mailed it to him. He has it for 4-5 months and now he tells me he finally got around to installing it and the guy doing the install says its totally toasted and not worth anything. Sounds fishy to me, it was only in my truck for a couple months theres no way it could have been that toasted. Sure it has some wear and tear, the truck had over sized tires and I towed my camper(3,000lbs) with it once. I think at best I put 3,000 miles on it. I don't know this guy, he is just some guy on a forum in michigan. For all I know he had the clutch installed and toasted the thing and is now trying to get his money back. He had 4 month to do so. I want to do the right thing here. What should I do ? |

Something sounds fishy to me also. He had plenty of time to install it and didn't or did and wore it out. He should have at least looked at it when he got it to make sure it was in good shape or taken it to someone that could tell. Had he said it the day he got it and returned it that would be different. I don't think it is your problem. If it worked fine coming out of your truck it should have been fine. Personally I wouldn't buy a used clutch. To me that's like buying used brake pads. I'm sure he didn't pay you as much as a new one would cost so he tried to save some money and it didn't work out. You didn't offer him a warranty did you? |

No I said all sales final. I paid $600 for it new and sold it to him for $200. Yeah I personally wouldn't buy a used clutch either but I knew this one was in good shape so I thought I would try to sell it and save somebody some money. |

I'd be polite but firm, and tell him the clutch was fine when it was removed, and he had ample time to have it inspected prior to installation. I'd vote for no refund. John |
